New birch parallel laminated veneer factory

On October 3rd, a new birch parallel laminated veneer factory was launched in Pärnu/EE. With this step, Metsä Wood is expanding its production capacity to meet the growing demand. The project with a budget of €55 million will primarily serve the growing construction and transport sectors.

The inauguration is the highlight of an investment program totaling €100 million. The annual production capacity in Pärnu is 50,000 m³. With the opening, the net production capacity of the Metsä group in this product segment gains 30,000 m³. The plans entail the employment of about 200 employees. Construction start was in April 2017, production start on August 27, 2018. The company states in a release that it will mainly use birch veneers that come from the Metsä group factory in Äänekoski/FI. Main suppliers for the Estonian factory were Finnish plant manufacturers Raute Oyj and Pinomatic Oy.
