Trade conflict with the US reaches timber industry

The customs duty that increased 25% would therefore affect all hardwood products. The interest grouping "American Hardwood Export Council" (AHEC) warns of the consequences of this development. In the past year, the US exported hardwood lumber with a total value of US-$1.6 bn, US-$800 m. of hardwood logs as well as hardwood veneering worth US-$260 m. to China.

As announced by the AHEC, currently around 50% of US hardwood products are exported, mainly to China. A Bloomberg Article states that especially family businesses are affected since only 5% of goods are produced by large-scale industries.
