At the International Softwood Conference (ISC) at the beginning of October, Marc Brinkmeyer, CEO of Idaho Forest, was still baffled by what happened in 2021. Instead of the expected headwind on the market, there was an “unprecedented boom” despite COVID-19. “Thanks to a stimulus program launched by the government (up to 19% of the annual income), the US were seeing a ‘bullish economy’. US softwood lumber prices were jumping to levels which cannot be sustainable,” analyzed Brinkmeyer who has a positive outlook on 2021 and believes that +6% are possible in new constructions – after +23% this year.
