At a press conference on June 9, the chairmen of the Austrian timber industry described last year as divided. In the first half of the year, there were uncertainties due to Covid-19, lockdowns on main market Italy and partly short-time work. Then, from June, an upward trend began which is still continuing. The entire timber industry generated €8 billion last year, i.e. only 5% less than in the record years 2019 and 2020. “The timber industry is resilient to crises,” said Erlfried Taurer, deputy chairman and spokesman for the panel industry.
