From January to July, 156,000 building permits for apartments were issued, i.e. 27.8% less than in the same period of last year. The rising cost of building and more challenging financing conditions are most likely to blame for this decrease.
From January to July, permits for apartments in newly built residential buildings totaled 128,300 (-31.6% compared to the same period of last year). The number of building permits for single-family homes fell by 36.5% to 30,800. A decrease was also recorded in permits for apartments in two-family homes (-53.2% to 8,900). As for multi-family homes, the number of permitted housing units was down by 27.5%, reaching a total of only 83,600. Apartments in residential buildings were the only exception to this overall negative development, having recorded a 10.6% increase and thus a total of 4,900 building permits.
