In January and February, a total of 35,900 building permits were issued in Germany according to Destatis. This corresponds to a slight year-on-year increase of 2.1%. In February alone, 17,900 building permits were recorded and thus fewer than in February 2024 (18,323 permits; -2.3%).
In the first two months, the number of permits for the construction of new buildings with one apartment increased by 12.4% year on year to over 6,800. Meanwhile, decreases were recorded in the number of permits issued for buildings with two housing units (-14.5% to just under 1,900) and three or more housing units (-1.3% to around 18,500). Permits for residential buildings increased substantially (+65.3% to over 2,000) compared to the first two months of 2024, as figures published by Destatis show.
