Article by Martina Nöstler (adapted for holzkurier.com; translated by Eva Guzely) | 18.04.2025 - 08:29

In January and February, a total of 35,900 building permits were issued in Germany according to Destatis. This corresponds to a slight year-on-year increase of 2.1%. In February alone, 17,900 building permits were recorded and thus fewer than in February 2024 (18,323 permits; -2.3%).

In the first two months, the number of permits for the construction of new buildings with one apartment increased by 12.4% year on year to over 6,800. Meanwhile, decreases were recorded in the number of permits issued for buildings with two housing units (-14.5% to just under 1,900) and three or more housing units (-1.3% to around 18,500). Permits for residential buildings increased substantially (+65.3% to over 2,000) compared to the first two months of 2024, as figures published by Destatis show.

In our Datacube, you can track the development of German building permits all the way back to the year 2003.
