Weak April, but relatively constant construction activity in 2023

In April, around 67,000 housing construction starts were recorded in Japan, which corresponds to a 12% decrease compared to the very strong month of April 2022.

In the first four months, construction of a total of 270,000 housing units started in Japan. Thus, construction activity remained more or less stable compared to the same period of last year (-3%). Data are collected by Statistics of Japan.
