Dampened start for construction sector in Japan

Japanese housing starts in 2017 have still been on a very high level. With 964,000 units, the good level of 2016 could be maintained. This January, however, shows a significant decline compared to the January of 2017.

In the first month of 2018, 66,400 units were started. This is 13% less than in the previous year - the level of January 2016, however, could be maintained.

Japan experts identify more cautious credit granting in 2018 as well as poor construction weather conditions as main causes.
