Housing construction starts still below last year’s levels

In February, housing construction starts in Japan increased slightly month on month. Nevertheless, they remain well below the level recorded last year.

Statistics of Japan reports 59,162 housing construction starts for the month of February. Compared to January (58,849), the number increased slightly. Compared to February 2023 (64,426), however, an 8% decrease was recorded.

In the first two months, housing construction starts totaled 118,011 in Japan. Compared to the same period of last year (128,030), that figure fell by 8%.
