Deciduous trees account for around 20% of Sweden's wood stock, according to svenskttra.se. Currently, about 200,000 m³/year of hardwood is being cut in Sweden. At the same time, the interest of forest owners and the demand for hardwood products at home and abroad is increasing.
The roadmap brings together stakeholders from the industry, research and education and formulates the goal of building a competitive hardwood industry by 2040. The plan is to increase annual production fivefold, have more specialised companies and increase national self-sufficiency. The plan focuses on long-term coordination along the value chain. Improved framework conditions are intended to enable stable raw material flows and promote investment in the industry.
The implementation will take place in three phases: knowledge building, structural development and scaling. An industry event ("Lövträdag"/Hardwood Day) is planned for 2 June at Linnaeus University in Växjö/SE.
