This upturn is likely due to short-term anticipatory effects by retail companies reacting to the announced price increases.
With demand expected to remain stable in terms of volume until the end of the year, numerous manufacturers of solid structural timber recently published price lists with higher September prices. Further increases have also been announced for the fourth quarter. Those are considered necessary in light of rising raw material prices, which in turn are the result of high log prices.
In August, raw wood for solid structural timber was still available for less than €300/m³ in many places. In September, however, prices will likely reach the €300/m³-mark almost everywhere. As for the finished product, a price of around €400/m³ was charged in August. Many producers expect it to be 5 to 8% higher in September.
