Torgau’s most difficult chapter has just begun

Mercer Torgau will lay off 350 of its approximately 800 employees by the second quarter of 2027. According to Dr. Carsten Merforth, COO of Wood Products Mercer Europe, this step is necessary because the company does not expect an economic recovery in the short term. Up until now, the company has been operating at near full capacity in the hope of a market upswing.
