Pallet imports down by one fifth compared to 2023

From January to April, Germany bought 15.3 million flat pallets from foreign producers, as Destatis reports. Year on year, this corresponds to a decrease of 21%.

The two main supplying countries in particular, i.e. Poland (-23% to 6.3 million pallets) and the Czech Republic (-28% to 2.6 million pieces), delivered a much smaller number of pallets to Germany than in 2023. Imports from the Baltic states, too, decreased in the first four months.

Deliveries from Ukraine even halved compared to 2023. As a result, the country is now behind Austria, which was able to keep its pallet deliveries relatively constant at nearly 600,000 pieces.

Downward trend in exports, too

In pallet exports, a much less marked decrease of 8% was recorded which brings the total to 9 million pieces in the first four months. Of the Top 5 foreign markets, Switzerland was the only one where Germany was able to achieve a slight year-on-year increase of 2% to almost 1.5 million pallets.

When you take a look at Austria, you can see that there was not much change in pallet imports from Germany’s neighbor (see table above). When it comes to exports, though, a much more substantial decrease of 22% to 1.1 million pieces was recorded. Last year, Germany sold over 300,000 pallets more to Austria.
