Article by Sonja Banschitz (translated by Eva Guzely) | 06.02.2020 - 09:43

With nearly 336,000 m³ Italian glulam and CLT imports saw a minimal increase of 1% in the first eleven months of 2019. According to Eurostat, imports amounted to 332,000 m³ in the same period of 2018. Austria remained Italy’s main supplier with 227,000 m³ (+4%). Two thirds of overall imports came from Austria.

Italy bought more from Russia (31,000 m³; +6%) as well. Imports from Poland (11,200 m³; -36%) plummeted, which helped Latvia (18,300 m³; +18%) rise to the third place of Italy’s main supplying countries. Volumes bought from Germany also decreased (6,900 m³; -23%).

As always, you can find more detailed data in our Datacube in the section Foreign trade.

Different data collection and reporting regulations, for example in Austria and Italy, make it difficult to compare foreign trade figures, especially when it comes to glue-laminated timber. The CN code 44189910 is analyzed.
