Furniture industry hit by a drop in sales

In May, German furniture manufacturers of all sectors reported a fall in turnover compared to the previous month and to last year.

According to Destatis, turnover of office and shop furniture manufacturers fell by 6% from 338 million euros in May 2017 to 319 million euros in May 2018. The kitchen furniture sector reported a decline of 8% from 441 to 407 million euros. Manufacturers of other furniture suffered a decrease of 8% from 716 million euros last year to 660 million euros this year.

May also saw a drop in turnover in all sectors compared to April. Office and shop furniture sales were down by 3%, kitchen and other furniture by 2% and 5%, respectively.
