According to a study carried out by the consulting agency Strategieberatung Roland Berger, German construction companies are burdened by external factors, such as inflation, rising interest rates and geopolitical conflicts. In the so-called Construction Radar, experts expect the German market to shrink by 6.2% in 2023. For 2024, too, companies and investors have to prepare for a 6.2% decrease in growth. Only from 2025 onwards can a recovery and 3% growth be expected, according to the study.

The general decrease in the order backlog of the German construction industry was initially offset by higher prices at the beginning of 2023. According to Strategieberatung Roland Berger, civil engineering stands out from the overall market with a solid order situation (incoming orders at +9.1% compared to 2022). In residential construction, the number of new orders has fallen by 17.6% since the beginning of 2023. In non-residential construction, a decrease of 6% was recorded.
