In these challenging times, top quality construction products, short construction times and efficient project management are not “nice to have”, but an absolute must on every construction site. For two years, family company Theurl has been manufacturing cross-laminated timber under the product name CLTPLUS at its state-of-the-art production site in Steinfeld. Producing nearly 70,000 m³ a year is only part of the challenge, though. Delivering such a volume to the numerous construction sites on time requires a lot of coordination and planning with the respective partners. To succeed at that, Theurl offers an extensive range of services. The joining of both glue-laminated timber (glulam) and cross-laminated timber (CLT) is done in-house, making timber construction into a single unit.

Communication on equal terms

What forms the basis of any good interpersonal relationship is also true for the production of mass timber products: Mutual understanding is key. Theurl knows that, just like in real life, numerous interfaces can occasionally lead to misunderstandings. Since the company attaches great importance to making the exchange with partners and customers as smooth and efficient as possible, it uses as many as four common CAD programs. Sema, Dietrich’s, cadwork and hsbcad help Theurl avoid sources of error in the production process and ensure a clear and lossless flow of data when carrying out both glulam and CLT projects.

The future starts now

Similar to its approach to internal product development, Theurl also places particular importance on innovation and individual solutions when it comes to services. “LRO” stands for Laderaumoptimierung, i.e. load space optimization, and is the answer to the particularly challenging logistical planning process involved in the handling of the construction elements at the production site. To make sure that the individual mass timber elements arrive at the construction site in the correct order, Theurl developed a software solution based on the Tetris principle specifically for its customers. “TIM”, the Theurl Information Manager, is another service tool which is currently in the development phase. 24/7 digital customer support via online access should become a reality already in the next few months. From a quick check of the order status and assistance in project handling to the exchange of data and documents, everything will then be possible with just a few clicks.
