Timber construction sector with a surprisingly positive trend

Article by Günther Jauk (translated by Eva Guzely) | 13.07.2020 - 10:30

So far, 2020 has been a really good year for Austrian and German timber construction companies. Despite the corona pandemic, 68% of companies interviewed for Holzkurier’s economic survey reported a “good” order situation in Q2, and 27% described them as “satisfactory”. The outlook for the future is positive as well. 70% do not expect their order situation to change in Q3 and 27% expect an improvement. Only 3% of interviewees prepare for a deterioration of the order situation.

The corona pandemic has hardly had any negative impact on the majority of timber construction companies so far. For 75% of them, a corona-related fall in demand is either “hardly noticeable” (43%) or “not noticeable” (32%). 20% report a “moderate” and 5% “clear” decrease in demand. Nearly half of the companies (48%) currently expect to reach their 2020 sales targets (39%) or even to exceed them (9%). 32% prepare for slight losses, while 11% and 7%, respectively, expect to miss their sales targets clearly or massively this year.

Holzkurier economic survey

How does the sector assess itself? How does the competition see the future? How are we doing compared to the previous year? And last but not least: How are prices going to develop? Those are all questions which Holzkurier tries to answer via online surveys. For this purpose, our editorial team contacted around 1000 timber construction companies in the DACH region. You can find the results of the survey in the graphics.

The more companies participate, the more representative results are, which is why we kindly ask you for two or three minutes of your time each quarter to assess the business situation for us – and for yourself, too. In case you have not received an invitation from us, we are, of course, happy to add you to our mailing list. Please contact us by e-mail: g.jauk@holzkurier.com.
