According to Destatis, the 360,600 permits for housing units include construction permits for new buildings as well as construction measures on existing ones.
In the segment of new residential buildings, 311,200 permits for housing units were issued in 2019, which corresponds to an increase of 8,900 units (+3%) compared to 2018. This is due to the positive development in the segment of multi-family homes (+4.6%). The number of construction permits for single-family homes (+1.2%) and two-family homes (+2.6%) increased as well.
