Fewer sawmills, higher lumber output

The European sawmill industry has been highly dynamic over the past 16 months, with numerous takeovers as well as sawmill closures. In 2025, Europe’s 20 largest lumber producers increased their cumulative production volume by around a fifth compared to 2024. This year, output is expected to increase by another 3%.
