The acquisition agreement was signed on March 1. The transaction is expected to be completed by mid-year, subject to regulatory approvals. The Ziegler Group had only acquired ZG Timber Sebes S.R.L. from HS Timber in the summer of 2023. According to sales documents, Ziegler Group’s acquisition was valued at 215 million €.

Kronospan has announced that it will maintain the site and retain all 500 employees. The Sebes sawmill has an annual production capacity of 740,000 m³ and produces wood pellets with a capacity of 230,000 t per year. The operational area covers 54 hectares.

Kronospan has been active in Romania since 1998 and has invested over 600 million € in the country. The company operates two production facilities in Brașov (OSB) and Sebes (particleboard and MDF), a logistics center in the Port of Constanța, as well as several wood collection and recycling centers. “Kronospan will now integrate sawn timber products into its global portfolio,” the company stated.

Additionally, Kronospan plans to invest in modernizing the Sebes sawmill to further expand production capacity.

The sawmill was originally established in 2003 by HS Timber. The Austrian company continuously expanded the site, adding a planing mill, drying facilities, glued laminated timber production, a pellet plant, and two CHP (combined heat and power) plants.

"With the sale of ZG Timber Sebes S.R.L., we have successfully transferred all international operational holdings of the Ziegler Group to reputable investors from the industry," emphasized Volker Böhm of Schultze & Braun, Achern/DE, the insolvency administrator of the Ziegler Group, after the contract signing.

ZG Timber Sebes S.R.L., along with the Swedish sawmills, was not among the 27 companies of the Ziegler Group that had to file for insolvency as part of the group’s bankruptcy proceedings.
