From January to September, Italy imported 2.95 million m³ of softwood lumber and planed timber. Year on year, imports were down by 5%. As a look in the Datacube shows, 2020 was the last year in which a smaller volume was imported in this period. At the time, imports totaled 2.56 million m³ according to data published by Eurostat.
1.64 million m³ (-3%) were purchased from Austria in the first nine months. Decreases were also recorded in imports from Germany (413,000 m³; -8%), Finland (173,000 m³; -8%) and the Czech Republic (149,000 m³; -8%), for example. Year-on-year increases were only recorded in softwood lumber imports from Switzerland (62,000 m³; +31%) and France (61,500 m³; +31%).
