US imports with a 10% year-on-year decrease in volume and value

Article by Gerd Ebner (translated by Eva Guzely) | 08.03.2024 - 12:16

While main supplier Canada was able to increase its trade volume by 2% to 2.14 million m³, import volumes from European countries saw marked decreases. However, it should be noted that in the first month, delimitation errors can also distort the result.

According to preliminary data published by the FAS, Germany shipped 210,000 m³ (-42%) of softwood lumber to the US, while Sweden even recorded a 54% decrease. Austria only sold 37,000 m³ (-17%) to the US.

The value of US imports saw a development similar to that of the import volumes. Thus, the price level remained nearly constant compared to January 2023.
