All Top 10 supplying countries saw double-digit decrease. Canada remained Japan’s number one supplier with 380,000 m³ (-35%), followed by Finland (325,000 m³; -35%) and Sweden (320,000 m³; -42%).

So far, Russia only shipped half of last year’s volume to Japan, i.e. 280,000 m³ instead of 560,000 m³, even though several Japanese companies own stakes in sawmills in Russia.

According to Statistics of Japan, softwood lumber imports from Austria (90,000 m³) and Germany (41,000 m³) also halved in the first seven months.
