Softwood lumber imports down by one third

According to China Customs Statistics, China imported 8.7 million m³ of softwood lumber in the first half year. In 2020, imports had totaled 12.7 million m³.

The biggest volume, i.e. 5.5 million m³ (-29%), was bought from Russia. The most marked decreases were recorded in shipments from Canada (-67% to 518,000 m³), Sweden (-55% to 219,000 m³) and Germany (-44% to 245,000 m³). Softwood lumber imports from Brazil (+120% to 254,000 m³), New Zealand (+105% to 287,000 m³) and Ukraine (+16% to 539,000 m³), on the other hand, saw big increases.
