Today, Madison’s Lumber Reporter forecast the prices for calendar week 24 on Twitter. Currently, 2-by-4 is to cost $1275/1000 bft (Western SPF, KD, # 2 & better), which would be a week-on-week decrease of $325/1000 bft. Converted into euros per cubic meter and from nominal into actual size, the new price for deliveries free Great Lakes region is around €675/m³, i.e. €174/m³ lower than last week.

The corrected price would still be €442/m³ above last year’s level. As the price chart above shows, prices only really began to rise at the same time in 2020.

The softwood lumber futures which are traded at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange currently forecast a price of just over $1100/1000 bft for the month of July. With the current exchange rate of $1.22/€, European exporters would earn around €580/m³.
