Prices thus reached a level which was last recorded in the record price period of 2018 (week 36/2018). Since the low in March, prices increased by 50%.
The most recent increases in prices are the result of a scarce softwood sawn timber supply from Canada and a high demand in the United States. According to US analysts, difficulties in transport due to COVID-19 countermeasures are another factor.
In US dollars, the 500 US-$ mark was passed in week 28 (504 US-$). In the previous week, the price was already at 554 US-$/1000 bft.
In the midweek, the Euro reached around 1.16 US dollars and thus its highest level since October 2018.
