Exports down by nearly 1 million m³

With 11.8 million m³, Russian softwood sawn timber exports (incl. planed timber) saw an 8% year-on-year decrease in the period January to May. This is according to preliminary data published by Russian customs authorities. Developments on the various export markets varied.

Exports to China fell by 11% to a nearly 7.2 million m³. Decreases were also recorded in shipments to Uzbekistan (841,000 m³; -9%) and Egypt (333,000 m³; -33%).

Slightly more softwood sawn timber was sold to Japan (447,000 m³; +3%). Exports to Azerbaijan (426,000 m³; +20%) and Kazakhstan (349,000 m³; +48%) saw marked increases. In the first five months of 2020, Russia also sold more softwood sawn timber to Estonia, Finland and Germany than in the same period of last year.
