Softwood sawn timber exports slightly up

German softwood sawn and planed timber exports amounted to nearly 2.32 million m³ (+2%) in the first quarter. This is according to Destatis. Exports to the US increased considerably (412,000 m³; +53%). One in nearly five cubic meters was exported to this overseas market. Shipments to China also grew (214,000 m³; +14%). Austria (213,000 m³; -3%), the Netherlands (202,000 m³; -13%) and France (191,000 m³; -16%), on the other hand, bought less softwood sawn timber from Germany.

Year-on-year increases were recorded in quantities exported to Belgium (195,000 m³; +5%), Italy (132,000 m³; +5%) and South Korea (47,000 m³; +34%).
