A few days ago, the WWF lodged yet another complaint against timber group Holzindustrie Schweighofer, Vienna, with the timber certification organization FSC (see link below). Schweighofer, however, points out that WWF's claim is predicated on accusations originally raised by environmental organizations EIA and Agent Green that in the meantime have already been proven wrong several times on the basis of facts, documents as well as audits by independent certification bodies. The timber group published all query responses and statements on their website (http://schweighofer-initiative.org ).
Additionally, Holzindustrie Schweighofer has already suggested and offered repeatedly to collaborate with people in charge and effectuate improvements in the Romanian forest industry and push for stricter controls in forests. "We regret that our company currently is misused for a media campaign against illegal loggings in the Romanian forestry – against all facts." Dr. Georg Erlacher, board member of the Schweighofer foundation, comments. “We are looking forward calmly to a re-examination of compliance with the strict FSC criteria and will prove once again that our company is working sustainably and according to strict quality criteria”, Erlacher states.
