Yesterday it was announced that Westas, Koski/FI, took over the sawmills Raunio Saha, Koski/FI, and Pihlavan Saha, Pori/FI. Managing Director and 85%-owner of Westas is 39-year-old Pekka Kopra, according to the business daily Maaseudun Tulevaisuus online. 15% belong to the listed paper company A. Ahlström, Helsinki/FI.

Kopra is a well-known name, also because Pekka Kopra owns 49.3% of lumber and glulam manufacturer Versowood, Vierumaeki/FI. The remaining 50.7% of Versowood are held by his brother Ville Kopra who is also responsible for the management of the company with eleven locations in Finland.

The two sawmills of the new Westas group are located in Southwest Finland. They produce 340,000 m³/yr of spruce and pine lumber and employ a total of 130 people. The group's focus is on exports with customers in over 30 countries. With annual sales of € 90 million, the new group is among the largest Finnish privately owned sawmill companies.
