Article by Martina Nöstler (translated by Eva Guzely) | 08.04.2025 - 11:08

In January 2025, Austria imported 381,000 m³ of softwood sawlogs, i.e. 15% less than in the same month of last year, as Statistik Austria reports. A look in the Datacube shows that this was the smallest import volume in this particular month since 2017. Back then, imports had totaled nearly 292,000 m³. In January 2020, the biggest import volume was recorded (636,000 m³).

Imports from Germany decreased by 15% to 182,000 m³, while those from the Czech Republic were down by 19%, amounting to only 114,000 m³. Smaller volumes of softwood sawlogs were also purchased from most other Top 10 supplying countries, including Italy (34,500 m³; -22%), Switzerland (3,100 m³; -24%) or Poland (1,500 m³; -55%). Austria only increased its imports from two countries, i.e. from Slovenia (40,000 m³; +14%) and Slovakia (4,000 m³; +35%).
