A blow to forestry companies’ price expectations
Chapter 11 proceedings at Mercer have no impact on timber purchasing
Neither the forestry sector nor the timber industry got their way in terms of price expectations for industrial softwood logs in October. The economic situation of Mercer International, Germany’s largest processor of industrial softwood logs, had already shaped market developments even before the announcement of a possible Chapter 11 filing – a reorganization procedure under US bankruptcy law. Pellet manufacturers are paying top prices, but forestry companies see less room for price increases.
