Log wood and lumber with price increases

In January, the log and lumber price indices reported by the Austrian Timber Industry Association saw similar month-on-month increases but remained well below the levels recorded in 2023.

As you can see in the chart below, the Austrian log and lumber price indices have seen an upward trend since September last year.

The log price index increased by around 6 percentage points month on month to 152% in January. The lumber price index was nearly the same at the beginning of this year (151%) and also saw a similar increase of 7 percentage points compared to December.

However, both price indices are well below last year’s levels. In the case of lumber, the price index was around 12 percentage points lower than in January 2023. The log price index decreased by about 19 percentage points year on year.
