Lumber down, log wood slightly up again

In August 2021, the lumber price index had reached the highest level ever recorded by the Austrian Timber Industry Association. In September, however, it fell by around ten percentage points month on month to 239.9% (base January 2001 = 100%).

The log price index, on the other hand, saw a slight increase, reaching 158% and thus a new high. However, this upward trend has nearly come to a standstill with the index rising by only 0.8 percentage points in September.

The log price index has been rising since August 2020. At that time, it was at 92% and thus considerably below the reference month of January 2001.
