China imported more log wood

Article by Günther Jauk (translated by Eva Guzely) | 23.11.2021 - 09:25

From January to October, Chinese softwood log imports totaled 41.8 million m³, which corresponds to a year-on-year increase of 14%, as data collected and published by China Customs Statistics show.

What stands out in particular are the growing import volumes from New Zealand (16.7 million m³; +33%) and Germany (9.92 million m³; +42%). However, when you take a look in the Datacube, the foreign trade data collected by the German statistical office Destatis paint an entirely different picture. From January to September (one month less!), German softwood log exports fell by 25% to 3.31 million m³.

Chinese imports from Russia decreased by 11%, reaching only 3.39 million m³, while those from the US (2.64 million m³; +32%) and Uruguay (1.8 million m³; +138%) saw marked increases.
