Log price index at a record level

Article by Philipp Matzku (translated by Eva Guzely) | 04.10.2021 - 09:55

In the fourth quarter of 2014, the log price index had been at 142.7 percentage points in Austria (base Q1 2009 = 100%). Then, the price kept falling, among other things because of the accumulation of damaged wood, reaching 98.6 percentage points in the second quarter of 2020. Since then, the price index has seen an uninterrupted rise of 62 points. In the first quarter, Land&Forst Betriebe Österreich reported a log price level of 133.03 percentage points. Compared to the third quarter of 2020, a 54.6% increase was recorded.

Data are collected by Dr. Michael Hauser of the Vienna University of Economics and Business on behalf of Land&Forst Betriebe Österreich. As always, you can find the detailed development since the launch of the index in 1973 in our Datacube in the section Time lines.
