Since June 10, the log wood has been transported to the port of Nordenham/DE via truck and inland vessel. The loading took place in mid-July.

“It is a real pioneer project,” says Peter Buchleitner, Head of Exports Asia Team at the north German company. “On the one hand, it is hard to find the technical port and loading equipment for this type of cargo in Germany. On the other hand, the mandatory phytosanitary treatment of wood for shipments to China comes with a complex planning effort,” explains Buchleitner.

Every month, Rodenberg ships 1,200 containers to China. Thanks to the charter party for the MS Glorious Kauri, transport capacity is now increasing considerably. The break bulk vessel has a loading capacity of 40,000 tons and is equipped with five stowage rooms and four loading cranes.

Via this new transport route, the north German timber trade company reaches many new customers in China who are farther away from the usual ports for container shipping. Chinese sawmills process the spruce wood into construction timber for the local market. The supplied spruce wood has a minimum top diameter of 20 cm and the majority of it is 11.8 meters long which corresponds to the length of the container.
