After two years of recovery, the exceptionally hot summer of 2026 substantially worsened the condition of Swiss forests, as the 2026 Sanasilva inventory revealed. An increased volume of damaged wood, especially damaged hardwood, is expected. Data show a marked increase in defoliation and mortality. Spruce faces an increased risk of delayed drought damage and subsequent bark beetle infestation in 2027.
