Imports of round softwood are sinking

In the H1, Austria imported 4% less of round softwood (3.45 million sm³) compared to the same period of 2018.

Especially Germany (-20%; 801,654 sm³), Slovenia (-42%; 360,000 sm³) and Slovakia (-24%; 52,000 sm³) delivered significantly less round softwood to Austria than during the H1 of the previous year.

For Czech Republic as well as Italy, on the other hand, Statistics Austria reports an export increase of +9.5% (1.9 million sm³) and +260% (283,000 sm³) respectively. In both cases, this is due to damaged wood accrual. With this, 55% of Austrian imports of round softwood come from Czech Republic.
