Philipp Freiherr zu Guttenberg, president of the work group of German forest owner associations (AGDW), was cited saying: "It is the catastrophe of a century. Soon, we will experience extensive clear cuttings all over the country."

Guttenberg estimates the damages of this year to amount to slightly more than €5 bn., €600 m. of which he allocates to bark-beetles. Drought damages total more than €3.3 bn according to Bild.de, and heat damages €375 m.

Under the headline: "The Harz is dying", the tabloid predicts that tourists will only be able to take pictures of tree corpses on the boulder - at least for the upcoming ten years.
