According to the Swiss daily Bernerzeitung.com, winter storm "Burglind" threw around 400,000 sm³ of wood in the canton of Berne alone. This is around half of the average annual utilization in the canton, as the Department of Economics of Berne reports. Burglind hit the canton on the 3rd of January with wind gusts of more than 180 km/h. The Swiss Prealps and the Swiss Plateau primarily suffered dispersed damages like sporadically thrown or snapped trees.
