In Austria, the neutral pellet price (without VAT, transport and handling costs) is at €263/t in January and is thus 1.6% or €4.2/t lower than it was in December 2023. Compared to January 2023 (€386.1/t), a decrease of 32% or €123.1/t is recorded.
In Germany, the neutral pellet price has been much more constant compared to December 2023. Nevertheless, it remains well below the Austrian price level. In January 2024, wood pellets cost on average €225.8/t (-0.7% or -€1.5/t month on month). Year on year, the pellet price is down by 34.8% or €120.6/t.
In Switzerland, on the other hand, pellets cost noticeably more in January 2024: €348.6/t. This corresponds to a month-on-month increase of €12.4/t (+3.7%). Compared to January 2023, the pellet price fell by 17.6% or €74.3/t. The ten-year average price, which is less sensitive to fluctuations in the currency exchange rate, is at €299.3/t in January. It rose by €4.2/t (+1.4%) compared to December 2023, but decreased by €77/t (-20.5%) compared to January 2023.
