3.4 million tonnes – pellet production at a record high in 2021

In the fourth quarter of 2021, a total of 840,000 tonnes of wood pellets were produced in Germany, i. e. 4.2% more than in 2020 and 2.5% less than in the previous quarter. In the full year 2021, production hit a new record high of 3.35 million tonnes.

In 2020, German pellet production output amounted to 3.1 million tonnes and was thus around 250,000 tonnes below the level recorded in the year before. This is according to the German Wood Fuel and Pellets Association (DEPV).

Over the past years, the production of wood pellets has seen a constant upward trend in Germany. In 2017, for example, it had totaled 2.25 million tonnes. The biggest quarterly quantity, that is 861,000 tonnes, was produced in the period July to September 2021.
