Last week, a fire broke out in the German Pellets plant in Wismar/DE. The damage amounts to several hundred thousand euros, according to the broadcasting network of Northern Germany (NDR). The drying plant is suspected of being the place where the blast started. Also an adjacent silo was damaged.
Fire investigators on site have not excluded the possibilities of a technical defect or of negligent arson, it was said. The production is currently standing still. When the production can go online again is still unclear.
In the first quarter, Germany more than doubled its pellet imports compared to the same period of 2024. The biggest quantities were purchased from Denmark, Poland and Belgium.
