Last year, German furniture manufacturers managed to yield a turnover plus for the third time in a row, Dirk-Uwe Klaas, general manager of the Association of German Furniture Industries, stated on the occasion of the press conference at the furniture trade fair imm cologne that took place on January 11th in Cologne. The year total for 2016 is expected to amount to € 18 bn. which equals a turnover increase of about 3.5%. This means that German manufacturers will crack the € 18 bn. turnover limit for the first time ever. Furniture export totals gained 1.2% in the first three quarters totaling € 7.7 bn. Sales to EU countries showed a particularly positive development increasing by 2.4% to € 5.4 bn. Imports followed this upwards trend as well: In the first three quarters, a total volume of € 9.3 bn (+1.9%) was reached. Poland, China and the Czech Republic contributed the biggest shares. For 2017, the sector is entertaining a positive outlook: Another sales increase of up to 2% is expected.
