Ziegler: Sale of Plößberg expected to close soon

Article by Gerd Ebner (translated by Eva Guzely) | 29.01.2025 - 09:21

Currently, it is about transaction number one, which involves the sawmill in Plößberg, Holzzentrum Ziegler in Pressath/DE (pellet and planing mill) as an extension of the sawmill, and Ziegler Logistik (Wiesau train station).

In Plößberg and Pressath, four log yards, five sawing lines, five planing lines, three heating plants and two stacking machines are installed. In addition, 230 trucks are parked in Wiesau and there is also a train station there. Naturenergie, Pressath, has a pellet mill with a production capacity of 240,000 tonnes a year. All of the raw material is supplied by Plößberg.

In mid-January, the wood fiber insulation board plant Naturheld was sold to the Josef Rettenmeier Naturenergie Holding. According to sales documents of statutory auditor PwC, this was the second tranche.

Thus, there remains tranche number three, i.e. the sawmill in Sebes/RO, which was acquired by Ziegler in August 2023 for €215 million. The sales documents list a sawing line with an output of up to 740,000 m³ a year, five planing lines and 40 drying chambers. Two combined heat and power plants are also located at the site.

Tranches four and five would be the two Swedish sawmills in Bäckebron and Balungstrand, which were acquired by Ziegler in May 2022 for around €113 million. The Bäckebron sawmill is said to have an output of 130,000 m³ a year. Almost all of the produced lumber can be dried on site (110,000 m³/year). In Balungstrand, drying capacity even exceeds the production output (120,000 m³/year).
