France was by far the largest producer with 1.35 million m³, followed by Romania with 1.1 million m³ and Croatia with 1.05 million m³. Germany, Poland, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands and Denmark are also EOS/ETTF member countries.
For 2024, a decline of 3% to just over 5.7 million m³ is expected. At just under 5.8 million m³, hardwood lumber production could then recover somewhat next year.
In contrast, in 2023 there was a demand for hardwood sawn timber of 4 million m³ in the EOS member countries. According to the survey by EOS and ETTF, this will be reduced by around 9% to 3.67 million m³ this year and could recover slightly in the member countries in 2025. The largest consumer last year was France with 1 million m³, followed by Germany (630,000 m³) and Romania (600,000 m³).
