First US softwood lumber price for European suppliers

Article by Günther Jauk (translated by Eva Guzely) | 19.09.2024 - 11:08

Specifically, it is the price of the lumber grade 2-by-4; 16 feet; SPF; KD, #2 & better, East Coast, loaded on truck. Loosely translated and converted to the metric system, the means: kiln-dried, planed spruce/fir/pine lumber of the quality class #2 and better with a cross-section of 3.81 x 8.89 cm and a length of 4.88 m, delivered to a port on the US East Coast and loaded onto a truck (see Practical knowledge).

In order to obtain as precise a price as possible for this product, the Holzkurier team has built up a pool of experts on both sides of the Atlantic over the past few months. We ask equally important European exporters and US importers about the price of the respective previous week and about the expected price development in the coming week. Thanks to this mix of sellers and buyers, we can paint a balanced picture and, by asking about expected prices, we can also look a little further into the future.

Each of our experts is an essential part of the transatlantic lumber trade and receives an invitation from us every week to take part in the price survey, which is carried out completely anonymously and takes no more than 30 seconds. In addition, we check the information on prices we receive at regular intervals in the form of strictly confidential background discussions.

If you consider yourself to be one of those qualified experts, we cordially invite you to participate. We are happy to receive your application at survey@timber-online.net.
