China imported 5.16 million m³ of softwood logs in the 1st quarter. This is 11% less than in the same period last year and the lowest volume in this period since 2017. In the first three months of 2021, the volume was just under 11.8 million m³, can be seen in the Datacube .
Volumes from the top 10 destinations developed differently from January to March. Imports from the main supplier, New Zealand, fell by 8% to 3.85 million m³. China also imported less from Canada (–6% to 312,000 m³), Australia (–29% to 83,000 m³) and the USA (–51% to 65,000 m³).
Meanwhile, coniferous log imports from Japan (+10% to 419,000 m³), Latvia (+20% to 151,000 m³) and Bosnia and Herzegovina (+42% to 46,000 m³) increased.
