From January to October 2024, Germany’s softwood log exports totaled 5.9 million m³. Foreign trade thus decreased by 27% within one year. In the first ten months, Germany exported 1.9 million m³ of softwood logs to its main buyer Austria. That is 14% less than in the same period last year and represents 45% of the total German exports. In 2024, 2.2 million m³ were delivered to Austria.
The second most important foreign market for German softwood logs was Belgium (684,000 m³; +2%), followed by the Czech Republic (465,000 m³; -32%). Shipments to China decreased by 65% year on year, reaching 345,000 m³ in the first ten months of 2025.
